Yesterday was BLAKE SHELTON’s 42nd birthday and he got a cake that looked just like the thing he loves the most. Yes, alcohol. They made it look exactly like a bottle of Smithworks Vodka, which is the brand that he has a stake in. (watch video clip here)
It Happened On This Day In Country Music History
1956 Happy Birthday Doug Stone born on this day, in Newnan, Georgia. Doug had the 1991 US #1 Country hit “In A Different Light.” Originally Doug Stone was Doug Brooks but at the time with the popularity of Garth Brooks and Brooks and Dunn the record label determined there were too many Brooks on the radio and it may be better to come up with a different last name as an artist.
1969 Glen Campbell was at #1 on the Billboard country album chart with Galveston. The singers thirteenth studio album spent 11 weeks at #1 and 26 weeks on the chart.
1984 Rhinestone starring Dolly Parton and Sylvester Stallone, premiered at Nashville’s Roy Acuff Theater.
1997 George Strait was at #1 on the Country chart with Carrying Your Love With Me.
2000 Chad Brock was at #1 on the Country chart with “Yes!” the second single from his album of the same name. The track enjoyed three weeks at the top of the chart.
2001 Lonestar released their fourth album I’m Already There. Serving as singles from this album were the title track (which spent six weeks at #1 on the Hot Country Songs charts)
Country Music Fun Fact
Though he also loved music, one of Charley Pride’s lifelong dreams was to become a professional baseball player. In 1952, he pitched for the Memphis Red Sox of the Negro American League. He pitched well, and in 1953, signed a contract with the Boise Yankees, the Class C farm team of the New York Yankees.
