1942 Happy Birthday Lee Greenwood is born in South Gate, CMA’s Male Vocalist of the Year in 1983 and ’84. He earns numerous awards for his signature anthem “God Bless The U.S.A.”

1972 Happy Birthday Brad Paisley is born in Glen Dale, West Virginia. A singer, Many #1 and top 10 hits, AGrand Ole Opry, and the Country Music Association’s Entertainer of the Year award also co-host along with Carrie Underwood of the CMA’s seen  Wednesday November 8th on ABC television.

1983 Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton spend the first of two weeks at #1  with “Islands In The Stream”

1984 Alabama reaches #1 in Billboard with “If You’re Gonna Play In Texas (You Gotta Have A Fiddle In The Band)”

2001 “Only In America” takes Brooks & Dunn to #1 on the Billboard country singles chart

2001 Alan Jackson is inspired to write “Where Were You (When The World Stopped Turning),” a song about healing from terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.  He records the song the following day and performs it live on the CMA broadcast for the first time.
