This Long Weekend In Country Music History

1943 Singer/songwriter John Denver  born on this day in Roswell, New Mexico. Best known for “Thank God I’m A Country Boy” and “Rocky Mountain High” and Country Music Association’s Entertainer of the Year award for 1975. John Denver died on October 12, 1997, when the plane that he was piloting went down over Monterey Bay, California.

1956 Happy Birthday Suzy Bogguss  born on this day in Aledo, Illinois. Best known for her 1990s, hits “Outbound Plane,”  “Aces” and “Letting Go”.

 

1983 Happy Birthday Jessica Andrews born on this day in Huntingdon, Tennessee. Befriended early in her career by Faith Hill, best known for her  1999 hit  “Who I Am”

 

1994 Faith Hill resides at #1 on the Billboard country singles chart for the first time in her career with “Wild One”

 

2001 Alan Jackson’s “Where Were You (When The World Stopped Turning)” spends the first of five weeks at #1 on the Billboard Country Music Charts.
