Happy Valentine’s Day!Today is St. Valentine’s Day, the feast day of two Christian martyrs named Valentine: one a priest and physician, the other the Bishop of Terni. Both are purported to have been beheaded on this day. The custom of sending handmade ‘valentines’ to one’s beloved became popular during the 17th century and was first commercialized in the United States in the 1840s.

It Happened On This Day In Country Music History

1985 Randy Travis signs a recording contract with Warner Bros., two weeks after recording “On The Other Hand”it went #1 on the country charts in April of 1986.

1987 George Strait’s “Ocean Front Property” is the first title to debut at #1 on the Billboard country albums chart.

1989 Happy Valentine’s Day: Reba McEntire gives fiance Narvel Blackstock a chainsaw.

2002 Forty couples are married in a mass Valentine’s Day ceremony in Newport News, Virginia. Steve Holy sings “Good Morning Beautiful” for the couples’ first dance.

2006 Little Big Town’s “Boondocks” is certified as a gold single indicating sales of 500’000.

2012 Warner Bros. releases Hunter Hayes‘ “Wanted” to country radio.  It was certified platinum 4X and reached #1 on the country singles charts.
