This Day In Country Music History 1/4/18

Today is National Spaghetti Day, National Missouri day, and National Trivia Day. (more information available at national Day) It was on this day in history that Utah became the 45th state.  On this day in 2004 NASA Mars rover Spirit successfully lands on Mars.

 

This Day In Country Music History

1923 WBAP in Dallas becomes the first station west of the Mississippi River to broadcast country music, airing “The Radio Barn Dance”.

1957 Happy Birthday Patty Loveless  born on this day in Elkhorn City, Kentucky. A distant cousin of Loretta Lynn, Loveless’ in 1996 is recognized by the Country Music Association as Female Vocalist of the Year.

1966 Happy Birthday  born on this day in Nashville.  Her 1996 hit “Strawberry Wine” nets the Country Music Association’s Song and Single of the Year. She also co-writes the Kenny Chesney/Grace Potter duet “You And Tequila”

1969 Johnny Cash earns a #1 country single in Billboard magazine with “Daddy Sang Bass.” 

1992 Collin Raye posts his first #1 on the Billboard country singles chart with “Love, Me”
